The Thomas Hardye School

Marvellous skiing in Montafon

Ski Trip

During February half term, 43 students made their way to Montafon, Austria to embark on a week’s ski holiday. Some of the students (and staff) were complete beginners, admitting to never putting a pair of skies on before. Whilst others would use a black ski run as their warm up.

After the dreaded 24-hour coach journey, the Thomas Hardye Team arrived safely in Montafon to be staying in a beautiful hotel, which was only 20 minutes away from the slopes. On Sunday 18th February it was time to start skiing, with the beginners learning how to put on skies, start, turn and stop. The advanced ones were already off on a tour of the resort.

It was amazing to see how much the beginners progressed and by day three of skiing these students were taken off their nursey slope and up to bigger and better heights to practise their skiing.   It was all about the speed in the intermediate group, with Reuben Elecock clocking up 55mph on the ski tracks app and Tia Chaloner zooming in for the girls on 47 mph; some speedy skiers! These students could be in for a shout at the next Winter Olympics.

The students were exceptional in terms of their energy, enthusiasm and behaviour all week. A special mention must go to the members of staff who accompanied me on the trip. I know the students enjoyed their company.
