PE Dept take on Sixth Form for Children in Need

On Friday 17th November it was that time of year to organise the PE Department and Sixth Form for their annual charity netball match. The match is played in order to raise as much money as possible for Children in Need. Miss Bright organised the PE staff into shape and the Netball stars within the Sixth Form created a Year 12 and Year 13 team. Competition was going to be fierce this year and PE did not want to lose their two year winning reign.

The match consisted of four x 5 minute quarters with two quarters against Year 12 and two quarters against Year 13. Up first were the Year 12 team and it was goal for goal with some excellent shooting from Mrs Dean and Mr Goulding and likewise Tiago Torres and Emily Conning. The Year 12’s just crept into the lead with the final minutes of the game winning 7-5. Up next were the Year 13’s and this team had a point to prove with Katherine Wilberforce and Charlotte Ashfield scoring on every opportunity despite the best efforts in defence from Mr Hughes, Mr Long, Mr Johnson and Mr Norman all switching around trying to stop the shooting duo. The PE department were keeping within reach of the Year 13, not letting the physicality of the youngsters get the better of them with Mrs Biddle, Mrs Hurley, Miss Paul, Miss Bright and Mr Bradley controlling the centre court, fighting for every interception to turn the ball over. Overall the Year 13’s team came out on top winning 9-7.

Two excellent games of netball played and a very enjoyable match. A special mention to Mrs Chittenden for doing an outstanding job of umpiring the game. The total amount raised was an amazing £256.45 which will be donated to Children in Need. The PE department are already in training for next year.
