Student makes shortlist of Arts Award.

 

Oran

Year 13 Art student Oran Cooch has been selected for the 2017 Saatchi Gallery Art Prize for Schools shortlist! Oran is one of the final 20 selected from over 24,000 entries worldwide.

The panel of judges this year included Alice Anderson, Artist; Alistair Hicks, Writer and Curator; Nigel Hurst, CEO of the Saatchi Gallery; Megan Piper, Gallerist and Founder of The Line; Dea Vanagan, Curator and Director, Hauser & Wirth Somerset

An exhibition at the Gallery will showcase artwork by the 20 shortlisted students from July 4th-13th 2017. The winner will be announced at an awards evening on July 4th.

Prizes
Overall winner: £10,000 to winning school, £2,000 to winning pupil
Secondary school winner (ages 11-18): £5,000 to school, £1,000 to pupil
Primary school winner (ages 4-11): £5,000 to school, £1,000 to pupil


An overall winner will be chosen from the two age category winners, meaning that one school has the opportunity to collect £15,000 for their art department. One successful student will receive £3,000, with another student collecting £1,000 to be spent on art and computer equipment.
The prize money provides school art departments with the ability to install state of the art computer and printing equipment and provide high quality art materials which allow pupils to explore, develop and realise their creative potential.

An outstanding achievement, huge congratulations to Oran and good luck for the final selection.

And in further news, Thomas Hardye  Art and Photography students have been recognised nationally once again for their creativity, risk taking and ambition with 5 students being selected by The Royal Academy of Arts A-Level Summer Exhibition On-line. This is from over 2,400 submissions by 1,200 students nationally. Judged this year by Wolfgang Tillmans. curator Per Rumberg, and RA Schools student Jessy Jetpacks. The A level Summer Exhibition On line is a showcase of the UK’s young artistic talent. It can be seen from 12th June to 20th August at the link below. It is held to coincide with the world famous RA Summer Exhibition.

The successful students are Hannah Bland, Ellie Beale, Barnaby Barnes, Eve Jefferies and once again Oran Cooch!
