The Thomas Hardye School

Thomas Hardye Sports Day 2016

Sports day

On Friday 24th June Thomas Hardye ran their annual Sports Day for both year 9 and year 10. The day started off very well with the weather looking to hold out. But unfortunately by lunchtime the heavens opened and we had to call off the year 10 Sports Day in the afternoon; typical British weather! There were lots of events going on this year from the traditional running, throwing and jumping to events on the astro; wang a wellie, penalty shootout and splat the rat, alongside the Frisbee throwing competition.

Year 9 started off extremely well with the 100m heats taking place on the sprint track and the long distance run taking place on the main track. In the girls 1500 meters Maddy Johnson smashed the record by 10 seconds and setting a new time of 5.15 minutes. The girl’s success continued with Maisie Pack setting a new record on the 200m with 27.65 seconds. The effort an enthusiasm shown by the year 9’s was fantastic turning up to their event to try and gain as many points as possible for their college. The results for Year 9 were 4th = Napier, 3rd = Henning, 2nd = Stratford and the champions were Trenchard.

With the rescheduled date for year 10 sports day on Wednesday 6th July, everyone was hoping for sunshine and thankfully it paid off. The Year 10’s started off with a bang, with some very quick sprinting in the heats it was looking set to be a very close 100m finals and it was with Tia Ranson winning it for the boys. There were some great competitions going on with both boys and girls high jump and the throwing events. There was one record broken with Ben Brown smashing the 400m record setting a new time of 56.25 seconds. Our favourite way to end the day with the relay’s with some very close finish times. The results for Year 10 were 4th = Trenchard, 3rd = Napier, 2nd = Stratford and the champions were Henning.

A fantastic two sports day ran this year, the students were exceptional and thank you to all staff who helped out to ensure the days ran as smoothly as possible. Let’s hope next year it can stay to one day.
