The Thomas Hardye School

Hockey Champions Trophy Trip

Hockey

Year 9 and 10 School Hockey Players go to London.

After an extremely early start our team of 19 made it to Dorchester south train station for 6:50am……..all but one who slept through his alarm! After arriving at London Waterloo, we got the underground to the Olympic Park. When we reached our destination the heaven’s opened and we could tell we were in for a wet day. We had the opportunity to write some inspirational postcards to team GB and we made it clear we were here to see a GB win. We watched two top class matches kicking off with GB v Korea in which GB stormed to a 4-1 victory. We then watched Australia, the Olympic champions, v Germany, who happened to be the World Champions. An outstanding match finishing with Australia running out winners 4-3. In spite of the rain we remained cheerful and picnicked in our seats overlooking the fabulous games of hockey. We also had the opportunity to play hockey in the interactive area and meet the players after their games. On the journey back there was exciting talk about the games. We arrived back at Dorchester for 7:30pm, fortunately in time for the Euro Football. All in all, a great day of sport.

Our great thanks go to the teachers Mr Long and Mr Pring for taking us on a once in a lifetime trip and most impressively wearing flip flops and shorts throughout the day in the rain.
