The Thomas Hardye School

Year 10 Employer Skills Workshops

A number of external employers  joined the Year 10 workshops this week to kick start the students’ interview preparation. Students worked in small groups with employers to identify their skills and qualities and prepare a personal profile to present to at their interview in July.  Students heard from a variety of businesses about different job roles and responsibilities; the skills employers are seeking and how to respond to situational questions in an interview. Current apprentices from Paragon and JP Morgan joined the groups to explain apprenticeships.  Students said:

It built my confidence about speaking about myself

·         It was informative and interesting to find out about other peoples’ careers

·         We were able to identify our skills and qualities and ask any questions

·         I liked the fact we had experienced people to talk to

·         Having lots of different viewpoints from people in varied careers

Ansbury Guidance were also in school to film the students about their own career aspirations and also to ask them how the existing careers provision could be improved. With many thanks to all of the guest employers from Barclays, Paragon, JP Morgan, the Co-op, Pengillys, DCC, Land&Wave, Dorchester Echo, Ansbury Guidance, parents,  the students and staff involved.
