The Thomas Hardye School

Rounders Success

Hockey

On Thursday 5th May Thomas Hardye held their annual Rounders Tournament down on the school field for both Year 9 and Year 10. The weather played it’s part and with over nine different schools arriving it was going to be an exciting afternoon. Both year groups played in a round robin format, so every game was to play for.

In the Year 10 tournament, we were able to enter two teams. The B team finished a respectable 5th place, coming up against tough oppositions and scoring more rounders with every game they played. The A team were looking to retain the trophy from last year. They played with real quality showing consistent hitting and catching. The A team finished a close second behind Lytchett. Jasmine Wareham was the stand out performer for the Year 10’s.

In the Year 9 tournament, our girls were looking very strong from the start, winning their first game 13-2 against Budmouth. These girls knew how to hit the ball, clearing the field on many occasions and making some spectacular catches. The final game of the tournament was the decider and it was Thomas Hardye vs Gryphon and both teams had won all their games. Gryphon opted to bat first, scoring a respectable 5 rounders; but with their good fielding we knew we had our work cut out. Thomas Hardye scored an outstanding 11 rounders ensuring they deserved to be crowned champions. Adelaide Elsom was the stand out performer, showing excellent skill level and leadership qualities as a captain.

A successful day all round, thanks to all the pupils for playing and to the  members of staff who helped out.
