The Thomas Hardye School

Year 9/10 Spanish Exchange

Spanish Exchange

On the 9th of March, students studying Spanish in years 9 and 10 spent a week in Murcia on the first leg of the Spanish exchange with our partner school, the Instituto Mariano Baquero.

They had a full programme of activities organised for the week in Spain. During the week, they attended lessons and discovered the city of Murcia, including a visit to the city’s historical cathedral, as well as the planetarium. The students also visited the ancient Roman Theatre in nearby Cartagena, before enjoying a boat trip around the harbour. They also spent a day at the beach at Mar Menor to soak up the sun!

The students all spoke Spanish throughout the visit and came back full of enthusiasm and a lot more confident. Some of the things our students said were:

My Spanish family have treated me so well; it was a great week I am sad to come home!”

“I’m going back in the summer to see my Spanish partner as we’re now really good friends”

“I’ve picked up so many Spanish words this week and I’m a lot more confident when I speak Spanish now”

The second leg of the exchange is in June and we are busy making sure we can provide our hosts with a similar experience.

Until then, ¡hasta luego!
