The Thomas Hardye School

Sixth Form Spanish Exchange to Barcelona

Barcelona Trip

From the 28th of January to the 4th of February, students studying A/S Spanish at Thomas Hardye visited their partner school El Colegio Maristes in Barcelona, Spain. Each student stayed with host families and participated in group activities during the day. On the Friday, students visited the famous Sagrada Familia. After a weekend spent with their host families, our students had a bus tour of Parque Guell and La Pedrera. On Tuesday the students, accompanied by Mrs Wakeman, took the train to Figures and visited the Dali Museum, which was a fantastic experience! The students said ¡hasta luego! to their Spanish partners with a meal on Wednesday evening, and they will see them again when they visit Dorchester in April.

Students’ thoughts:

“ I had the best experience on my Spanish exchange. Meeting people that were so open and friendly and forming friendships despite speaking different languages. It has given me more confidence when speaking in Spanish. In addition to this, the city is beautiful and the weather was amazing!”

“The food in Spain was amazing, especially the Paella, which was a new experience seeing as it contained octopus and squid, something I’ve never eaten before. Barcelona is a beautiful city, especially el Parque Guell, where you can see almost all of Barcelona.”

“This was my first visit to Spain and I had an amazing time! I got on well with the family I stayed with and really enjoyed listening to Spanish radio and watching Spanish TV. The culture in the city was beautiful and exploring was great fun!”

“ I had a fab time, we vistited La Sagrada Familia which was one of the highlights as it was beautiful. My favourite part was on the Friday when we went out for Tapas as a big group. Overall it was a great experience which has benefitted my Spanish.”

“ My family were so hospitable and we spent at least an hour after every meal speaking together in Spanish. The day trips were all very beautiful ( particularly the Gaudi outings – which were incredible). ¡Hasta luego!”
