The Thomas Hardye School is a 13-18 mixed comprehensive school with 2300 on roll including 800 in the Sixth Form. TEACHER OF DESIGN (Design and Technology Resistant Materials/Product Design)
MPS
SEPTEMBER 2020

We require a well-qualified and highly motivated teacher to join the Design Department.  You will be committed to outstanding standards in teaching and learning and have a passion for working with young people.  You will have excellent subject knowledge, with the ability to teach Design and Technology Resistant Materials up to Key Stage 4 and Product Design up to Key Stage 5.  The ability to teach one other Design and Technology area would be an advantage.

The Design Department offers a range of courses at GCSE and A Level in specialised and well-resourced accommodation.  It is a vibrant and dynamic team providing all learners with an exciting range of experiences.

TEACHER OF PERFORMING ARTS (DRAMA)

We can offer you an opportunity to work in the Performing Arts Department at one of the top performing comprehensive schools in the country.  We require a well-motivated teacher who is committed to the highest standards of teaching and learning.  You will be able to teach Drama at both GCSE and advanced level.

The Performing Arts Department is a vibrant and dynamic team and offers courses at GCSE as well as Theatre Studies A level and the Cambridge Technical Level 3 extended certificate in Performing Arts.  The department has recently benefitted from newly built bespoke rooms for drama and dance, along with existing performance spaces.

The drama & performing arts department at the Thomas Hardye School is committed to providing the best possible learning experience for all students.  Students study the subject from KS3 – KS5 and there is a secure uptake at all levels, with well mixed classes.  Students currently follow the EDUQAS specification at GCSE, complete workshops on Brecht, Berkoff & Stanislavski in preparation for devised work and study DNA by Dennis Kelly.  At A Level there are two options for students; AQA theatre studies and OCR Cambridge Technical performing arts.  Both include pathways to university and further training.  The department offers well-equipped and specialist working environments, including a brand new studio space.  Extra-curricular is vital to the learning of all students, with a wide range of weekly clubs, annual performances and visits to theatres.  The department supports the local community in many ways, including arranging events for voluntary groups and workshops for local middle and first schools.

SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS & DISABILITIES COORDINATOR

We require a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator to lead our Education for Everyone team from April.  The successful candidate will have:

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to motivate and organise a large team
  • Excellent knowledge of issues around SEND and inclusion
  • A passion for promoting SEND and inclusion in a comprehensive setting

We are looking for someone who has the capacity to review the way we support our young people and to communicate a convincing vision for the future that wins the confidence of parents, students and staff.  You will have high expectations of what young people can achieve regardless of barriers and a belief that all young people are entitled to access the full richness of a broad and often academic curriculum given the right support and encouragement.

The department has a strong tradition of excellence through its specialist status and includes two bases, one for physical disabilities and one for complex communication needs.  There is a management team, a deputy SENDCO, an office manager, two specialist teachers and over 30 teaching assistants.  The department works closely with the Dorchester Area Schools Partnership and has extensive links with outside agencies.  Thomas Hardye is a driving force behind the Wessex MAT and the Dorset School Teaching Alliance so there are exciting opportunities to influence SEND provision on a system wide basis.

TEACHER OF MATHEMATICS (MPS)
FULL TIME
SEPTEMBER 2020

We require an outstanding teacher of mathematics for September 2020.  You will be responsible for planning and delivering high quality lessons and achieving excellent results for your students, instilling in them a love for the subject and a desire to learn.  A willingness to teach throughout Years 9 to 13, and to offer another subject would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will be a committed team player with a good sense of humour and the drive and energy to thrive in this outstanding school.  This post would suit a newly, or recently qualified, teacher.
