REQUIRED IMMEDIATELY
CLERK TO THE INDEPENDENT APPEALS PANEL (Job ref XS 8.10)

The Thomas Hardye School and The Woodroffe School

Term time only – hours by arrangement as required
Grade 5, points 4 – 6 : £9.55 - £9.94 per hour

The post of Clerk to the Independent Appeals Panel has become available in both our schools.  This post is effectively a dual role with one person employed jointly by The Woodroffe School in Lyme Regis and The Thomas Hardye School in Dorchester.  Thomas Hardye School is part of the Wessex Multi-Academy Trust.  As such there may be opportunity to work with further schools as the MAT expands.

The role of the Clerk is to service the Independent Appeals Panels which meet as and when required, to consider appeals in relation to Student Admissions, where an initial application for a place at the School has been refused.

We are seeking to appoint a well-organised, efficient person with good ICT skills for this key role. The successful applicant must have demonstrable administrative skills and evidence of the ability to work independently.  Duties will include arranging meetings of the Independent Admission Appeals Panel, clerking the hearings and ensuring an adequate pool of fully trained panel members is maintained. You will also be required to provide procedural advice to families and to the panel in accordance with current legislation.

It is expected that the successful candidate will work from home, providing his/her own word processing and telephone/internet facilities. A photocopying service is available in each school and postal charges will be met. Telephone calls from home will be reimbursed also on receipt of an itemised telephone bill.  You will be required to travel to both schools as necessary when appeals are being heard, for which travel expenses will be reimbursed.

The post affords no entitlement to any contractual benefits e.g. membership of the pension scheme, or contractual sick pay.  However the postholder is entitled to statutory annual leave and payment for this takes the form of an additional 12% on the hourly rate of pay.  Annual leave entitlement is displayed separately on pay slips.  Tax and NI contributions will be deducted if applicable.

The Woodroffe School and the Thomas Hardye School value the diversity of their workforce and welcome applications from all sectors of the community.  We are committed to Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.

The closing date for applications is Tuesday 26th November 2019 and interviews will be held shortly after this date.
